With over a decade of experience, I craft branding, websites, illustrations, packaging, and merchandise that merge strategy, storytelling, and thoughtful problem-solving into meaningful and lasting design.
ABOUT JANNA
I grew up on a multi-generational grain and cattle farm in Southern Alberta, where my love of nature and visual storytelling first took shape. Those early years spent on horseback, helping with crops, and exploring the outdoors taught me to notice the details; the colours, patterns, and quiet rhythms that continue to influence my approach to design today.
My twenties took me across Canada and beyond, from living abroad in Australia and New Zealand to the South Pacific, to the mountains of southwestern Alberta, and to the coastal communities of Ucluelet, Squamish, and Victoria. Each place shaped my creative perspective, including a chapter in Thunder Bay, before I eventually returned home to the Calgary area and settled in Rocky View County.
I built my freelance design studio in 2015 and spent over a decade honing my skills in branding, web design, illustration, packaging, and client experience. After becoming a parent in 2022, I adjusted my pace but strengthened my commitment to producing thoughtful, high-quality work for the clients I serve. After ten years of working independently, partnering with Jen to create West of Ordinary Creative felt like the natural next step. We share the same values and vision, and our strengths complement each other beautifully — Jen brings photography, content creation, and strategic clarity, while I bring illustration, branding, and technical web expertise.
Today, I approach every project the same way I learned on the farm: work hard, care about the details, and value the relationships that make great work possible. I take my clients’ vision seriously and guide them through a collaborative and intentional process from concept to launch.
